Green Flag Award for Social Housing (England only)

The National Housing Federation & Neighbourhoods Green and Keep Britain Tidy are delighted to announce that after two years of development Green Flag Award for Housing has now launched.

Green Flag Award is the benchmark standard for parks and green spaces and an internationally recognised accreditation. The development of the award for the sector not only shows housing association's leading role in creating great places to live but provides a target for members to aim for in estate level regeneration and creates a great opportunity to publicise the fantastic work members are already doing.

Specific sites or estates operated by social landlords will be able to apply for the award, which is not yet applicable to other tenures of housing. Your housing association could well be the first in it's town, city or county to win Green Flag Award.

Cost, Process, and Applications

The award is given following a two stage process of a review of the management documentation and a visit two the site by two expert judges. Judges will always provide expert feedback on how the site can be improved. If you are not sure if a site is ready to submit we can arrange a free pre-application visit to give support and advice for the process.

Fees for applications in the previous financial year were:

  • £312.00 (plus VAT) for sites up to 19.99 hectares
  • £363.00 (plus VAT) for sites 20.00 hectares and above
