About this park/green space

Royal Victoria Country Park is 200 acres of woodland, parkland and foreshore just waiting to be explored. This stunning park, located on the shore of Southampton Water, boasts a rich variety of plant life and a flourishing animal population. The vast amount of walking routes and open areas makes the site popular with walkers, and the fresh sea breeze is exhilarating. There is endless activity to be found for children; whether they’re playing sports in the park’s wide open spaces, taking part in one of the woodland trails, having a ride on the miniature railway, or having an adventure in the play area. The relaxed atmosphere and peaceful environment of the park is welcoming and calming, a breath of fresh air from modern city life. The majestic Royal Victoria Military Hospital stood on this site from 1856 to 1966. Following the demolition of the quarter-mile-long building, the Chapel is the final surviving part of the grand hospital and continues to be a prime attraction at the park, its tower offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The Chapel is home to a Heritage Site which displays its fascinating history. An exciting programme of events highlights the thrilling opportunities offered by the park, and there truly is something for everyone. A skilled team of dedicated staff work tirelessly to maintain the popular site, keeping it in ideal condition for visitors. There is always more to discover at Royal Victoria Country Park.
