About this park/green space

Staunton Country Park is situated in over 600 acres of parkland, once the Regency pleasure grounds of nineteenth century Orientalist, traveller, politician and patron of horticulture Sir George Staunton. Just one attraction of Staunton's beautifully maintained estate, the country park is a stunning example of British countryside, located on Portsmouth's doorstep. Visitors can spend a relaxing day strolling in the beautifully landscaped Leigh Park Gardens, take a picnic at the Well Meadow view point or stop for refreshments at the Victorian Coach House cafe. Those seeking a challenge can tackle the orienteering course or test their stamina on a walk or cycle trail through the ancient woodland. The inquisitive can explore the mysterious follies, including the Chinese Bridge, Shell House and the Beacon. Keen anglers may even indulge in a spot of fishing at the ornamental lake. Children will love getting close to the friendly animals on the ornamental farm and losing themselves in the Golden Jubilee maze. All of our visitors are sure to be enchanted by the charming tranquillity of the walled garden and stimulating sensory garden. One attraction not to be missed is the largest ornamental glass house on the South coast, where visitors can encounter many giants of the plant world ' including the breathtaking Amazon Lily. Staunton Country Park also plays host to a number of exciting events throughout the year, including a series of guided walks, children's holiday activities and seasonal festivities.
