Hollingwood Hub

Hollingwood Lock House was built in 1892. By 2008 it was quite literally falling down, with no floors or stairs and in danger of collapse. The Chesterfield Canal Partnership and Derbyshire County Council applied to Community Assets ,which is funded by HM Gov. for Civil Society. The grant amount £385,000, which paid for the renovation and extension. The result is Hollingwood Hub, which is now the HQ of the Chesterfield Canal Trust. It stands on the Chesterfield Canal towpath, which is on the Trans-Pennine Trail and Sustrans Route 67. The Hub has 7 Sections:
1. The offices of the Chesterfield Canal Trust.
2. Katey's Coffee Shop, which is leased. We work with Katey, who caters for Events in the Meeting Room.
3. The David Trickett Meeting Room which is used by the Trust as an Information Centre and Shop and reception for canal trips and paddlesports hire. It is also used for Meetings, Conferences, Exhibitions etc. It is run entirely by volunteers.
4. The Gardens are tended by a team of volunteers.
5. The Car park/Event space can hold 60+ cars.
6. We run fully approved NCBA narrow boat trips, every Saturday from April to October plus some midweek trips in school holidays on Madeline, crewed by volunteers.
7. We run a Paddlesports Hire business, again staffed by volunteers.
The Public parts of the building are fully accessible and there are two toilets for the disabled. The Towpath is built to Access for All specification.
There is an outside wall-mounted defibrillator and an audio information post.
