Warley Woods
Warley Woods is a 100 acre community park: a mix of woodland, open meadow and a nine hole golf course. As a result of its historical plan, designed by Humphry Repton, it is registered Grade 2 on the English Heritage Register of Parks and Gardens. Although little more than three miles from the centre of Birmingham, Warley Woods is in Smethwick, itself one of the six towns of Sandwell Borough. Sandwell's Green Space Audit confirmed that Warley Woods was one of the most significant green spaces in the Borough as it is one of the most visited, one the most valued and one of the best quality sites. The site has been managed since 2004 by Warley Woods Community Trust which is committed to its long term improvement and maintenance. The Trust has restored historic features and continue to develop new facilities by working with charities, community enterprises, local partners and volunteers. The Trust believes that the park is a true People's Park and local people are involved in every aspect of the park from its management and maintenance to developing educational materials and organising events. The Trust currently has over 1,500 members and 300 plus active volunteers. It runs an annual programme of events with something happening every month of the year. Its café and shop are open 363 days of the year.
