French Weir Park
French Weir Park is a well used park close to Taunton town centre beside the River Tone. The Council bought the park in 1893, although it had previously been the site for the town's bathing station.
There is a selection of mature trees and a footpath to the three sides of the park. The central area of grass encourages visitors to participate in recreational activities and contributes to the informal, relaxed feeling of the park. In the summer month a grass maze is cut to provide informal play for all. The banks along the boundaries are planted with an array of flowering bulbs giving the site a natural and colourful display.
A new play area, completed in February 2009 and expanded in 2012 and 2013, has been designed following extensive consultation with the community and the local schools and has a wide range of natural play elements as well as traditional play equipment.
The Friends group organises several free events in the park throughout the year, the main event been the Family Fun Day in August. Other events include the River Festival and Easter Egg Hunt.
