West Park
West Park was the first new park in Darlington for over 100 years, opening in 2005 having been regenerated from an old industrial site. It has over 30 acres of woodland, wetlands and wildflower meadows.
The park has become the green heart for the local community of Faverdale, providing an area for informal recreation and a space for sport and community events. It boasts an active friends group who hold regular meetings, support a wide range of events and fun days and help to involve the local community through liaising with the West Park Levy Trust and the wider community.
The park is a fully sustainable community green space, partly funded through a community levy. Plans for the future include the expansion of the community orchard, an increase in the bio diversity of the area through continued habitat management and an increase in the number of community events taking place.
Within the park you will find the mythical 'Jabberwocky' representing the three threatened species originally found on the site.
You will find a wide range of flora an fauna including 20 species of butterfly, as well as bats, birds and watervoles. You will also discover specially commissioned cultural artefacts including poetry and sculpture.
You may also enjoy the custom designed 4x bike track and a uniquely landscaped play facility.
