Little Chester Allotments are located just off Old Mansfield Road, Derby. Covering a site of 10.8 acres and currently offering 162 plots of varying sizes, the allotments are well used all year round. Its elevated location means the site enjoys stunning panoramic views across the city of Derby and beyond.
Primarily used for the purpose of growing fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers by plot holders, their family and friends, the site also boasts a number of communal facilities, a wildlife garden, a community garden and a Green Gym. As well as offering an opportunity for members to ‘grow their own’ the site provides a safe environment to enjoy fresh air and nature, exercise and mental relaxation. Plot holders are diverse in age, nationality and experience and this gives the site its unique feeling and range of produce being grown.
There is a strong sense of community and pride within the allotment, with increasing numbers of plot holders participating in events and volunteering in the general upkeep of the site. A warm welcome is extended to surrounding communities, groups and individuals and members of the public are encouraged to visit the site at weekends and for organised activities.
With an active Committee Little Chester Allotments is constantly evolving and improving with the long term aim of providing a sustainable site for the enjoyment of future generations.
