Bankside Urban Forest

Bankside Urban Forest is a network of on-street pockets of green space that have been created by Better Bankside and its partners through its Bankside Urban Forest project. Bankside Urban Forest is a long term placemaking project and partnership that aims to encourage greater footfall and exploration throughout Bankside through improving and greening or grey streets and spaces.

Coordinated by Better Bankside, the local Business Improvement District, projects have been developed and delivered in partnership with a wide range of local organisations including businesses, the local authority, local residents and workers and landowners.

Our spaces are small and manifold, designed to deliver multiple benefits to the local area – from improved visual amenity, to reducing water run-off and trapping air pollution particulates, through to providing opportunities for people to actively participate in their management.

From planting tree pits, to on-street rain gardens, to vertical gardens, street trees, oversized container planting and roof gardens Bankside Urban Forest works to ensure that opportunities for greening Bankside are maximised for all of our community – residents, workers and visitors to enjoy.

Our spaces are open 24/7, and are enjoyed by people and wildlife alike. They provide opportunities for people to learn about greening the grey, for people to come together and actively participate in the transformation of a busy inner London neighbourhood.
