Kirkburton Churchyard

Situated on the edge of the village is All Hallows' a Grade 1 listed Church which has one of the largest churchyards and open green spaces in the district, The churchyards have been transformed from an overgrown wilderness overmany years by a very dedicated small team of volunteers. The area is now a safe haven for wildlife, grasses and wild flowers adorn the perimeters whilst maintaining the quiet and dignity of the area. There is still much to be achieved in this green space but visitors can now sit on benches or walk through the churchyards to enjoy the peace and tranquillity.
Relatives can now trace their ancestors with over 12,900 records available on line on the website https://kirkburton.burialgrounds.co.uk/mapmanagement/#/
All the graves tell a story of a life and times but some have become neglected over the years. To help overcome this the Adopt a Grave scheme was envisaged to help refurbish these graves so that they once again become special. You do not have to be a church goer to do this. This scheme belongs to the villages of Kirkburton, Highburton and beyond. People come to search for family graves from time gone by and stay to help.
The Adopt a Grave team work in conjunction with the volunteers who maintain our award winning churchyards We hope to start a Grow and Sow project in this coming year whereby Adopt a Gravers can plant , source and share plants at no cost to themselves.
Our churchyards go from strength to strength to provide a haven for nature lovers, a safe habitat for wildlife and a space to reflect on loved ones past and things to come.
