Celebrating the world's first public park

23 October 2017

The team were on the Wirral last week, at the World Urban Parks European Congress 2017, supported by the Green Flag Award. The event was a real international celebration, welcoming delegates from 15 different countries.

Both the World Urban Parks European Congress and the Green Flag Award are proud to put our support behind Birkenhead Park's application for Unesco World Heritage Status.

Birkenhead Park was the world's first publicly-funded open access park, ahead of its time and leading the way in the creation of the parks we all know and love today. It was even the inspiration for the design of New York's Central Park.

Good luck to Wirral Borough Council in your application from everyone at the Green Flag Award.
