This week the Green Flag award team, with park managers idverde, were delighted to welcome a delegation from Japan to Kensington and Chelsea’s Holland Park, proudly flying the Green Flag since 2001.
The visiting group, from the City Hall of Sendai and the NPO-birth project in Japan, are visiting parks in cities across Europe to gather further ideas and best practice, which they will use as they continue to develop Sendai’s City Park Management Policy.
They were particularly interested in learning about the Green Flag Award scheme and how Green Flag accredited parks are managed.
idverde’s Head of Greenspace Development, Andrew Kauffman, who is also a Green Flag Award assessor, provided a tour of Holland Park, explaining the park’s management plan. The visitors also met with many of the staff who maintain the park.
Andrew Kauffman said, “Thank you to the Keep Britain Tidy team for providing this opportunity to discuss the Awards and greenspaces in the UK and Japan. We were delighted to have this opportunity to exchange knowledge and best practice for park and greenspace management and hope that the delegates enjoy the remainder of their stay in the UK.”
