Thousands of newspapers have taken a slight detour on their way to be recycled, thanks to a creative partnership between our partners at DS Smith, The Griffin Gallery in London and Turner Prize-nominated artist, David Mach.
The 20 tonnes of newspapers will be used to create a gigantic wave, cascading through the gallery walls and engulfing the artist's own Jeep. The exhibition is running until 11th July, after which DS Smith will recycle the newspapers at their West London facility.
In exchange for the loan of the newspapers, the Griffin Gallery are making a charitable donation, which DS Smith want to be used to support parks. The donation will be made to Keep Britain Tidy, who DS Smith have supported for the past three years, through the company's sponsorship of the Green Flag Award scheme.
The donation is being used to support a park's friends group that the DS Smith Recycling facility in Bolton already works closely with. The Friends of Longsight Park is a not-for-profit project, aiming to improve the park’s appearance for the local community. The donation will be used to fund litter picking and other grounds-keeping activities.

David’s use of newspaper is an impressive way of demonstrating the large quantities of paper that are successfully recycled in the UK every year.”
