After a successful pilot scheme this year, six sites in the Republic of Ireland are delighted to be joining the many other countries in raising their Green Flag.
Following a successful piloting of the Green Flag Award scheme in the Republic of Ireland this year, overseen by An Taisce, six sites around the country are now proudly raising their first flags.
Recipients include Fingal County Council, who now hold Green Flag Awards for two of the county's most iconic parks, Millennium Park, Blanchardstown and Malahide Demesne.
Local school children helped the Mayor of Fingal raise the flag at Malahide Demesne in a ceremony earlier this month.
Mayor of Fingal, Cllr David O'Connor said "I am very proud to see Malahide Demesne achieve this internationally recognised standard of excellence for Parks and Green Spaces. Well done to all involved, and to the staff whose hard work provides us in Fingal with such a great amenity."
The Green Flag Award scheme is already supporting the best practice management of parks and green spaces across England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, The Netherlands, Germany, Australia, New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates.
