The Green Flag Award scheme is delighted to announce the appointment of Carl McClean as our International Development Manager.
In this new role Carl will lead on the expansion of the programme internationally, aiming to make it the recognised international standard for the management of parks and green spaces. With flags already flying across the world, from Europe to Australasia, we plan to use our growing international network to share good practice globally.
Carl is an experienced horticulturalist and landscape manager with a career focused on developing public green spaces for their benefits to people and wildlife. His previous roles span private and commercial landscaping, horticultural training, and strategic green space improvement as a local authority parks manager.
Just like us, Carl believes the qualities of outdoor spaces can lead to stronger communities, better business and enriched living. He holds a degree in Landscape Management, RHS Level 2 Horticulture and is a member of the Chartered Institute for Horticulture.
In Carl's own words, "The Green Flag Award has been a real beacon throughout my career and I have always been a real champion for it’s ability to improve the value of parks and public green space.
"I’m honoured to now have the opportunity to show that this creative benchmarking concept, born in the UK parks scene, can go on to benefit communities across the globe."
The scheme will be expanded through a series of International licences with an appropriate organisation in each country. If you would like to discuss these opportunities, Carl can be contacted at [email protected]
