Peasholm Park

Peasholm Park is a heritage park, of around 14 Ha, situated in a prominent location on Scarborough’s North Bay. It offers great variety, providing satisfying opportunities for visitors of all ages with different interests and requirements. Most visitors are familiar with the busy lake area with its café, bandstand concerts and Naval warfare displays but local people and those prepared to venture further can also enjoy the peace and quiet of the mature woodland of Peasholm Glen. This provides excellent wildlife habitats as well as a tree trail highlighting several rare and ‘champion’ trees. The park also contains more formal areas with colourful seasonal bedding displays in addition to the many permanent shrub beds. A key feature is the Island in the lake with its colourful pagoda and waterfall beneath. Visitors to the Island can also visit the beautiful Japanese garden. Opportunities for more formal recreation include boating and the putting green. Other facilities available include a café, refreshment kiosk, and toilets.

Peasholm Park benefits enormously from the support of a strong and active Friends Group, the Peasholm Park Friends. They hold regular meetings and workdays to assist the park maintenance team as well as organising an annual programme of events, running alongside that offered by Scarborough Borough Council. The former is aimed mainly (but not entirely) at local residents; the latter mainly at visitors over the main holiday season.

The park has an exceptionally wide audience and is well loved by the residents of Scarborough and the surrounding area as well as by many thousands of visitors each year.
