Alexandra Park (Manchester)
We believe Alexandra Park should keep its Green Flag Award as The Friends of Alex Park and Manchester City Council continue to successfully work in partnership in the activation of the park. During this year in particular Manchester City Council has put additional resources into keeping the Park open and safe, which has seen increasing numbers of people using the Park.
Since the restoration, the park retains all the aspirations that the Green Flag award stands for. The play area by the lake continues to encourage adults to bring their children to play safely, which helps to improve their health and tackle childhood obesity.
The café continues to be the perfect setting for quiet enjoyment, as well as active recreation and it is the perfect place to relax. During this year, this has continued to be the case, as It continues to be a place to meet.
The Friends & other Park Groups and volunteers continue to dedicate themselves to caring for and improving their park. It is a fantastic place with our heritage features restored giving the opportunity for those who need volunteering opportunities and training.
It’s a great place where people can exercise without the formality of a gym or leisure centre, enabling people to forget about their problems whilst watching the wildlife. Older people continue to enjoy the age friendly seating and the outdoor setting, reducing loneliness and isolated.
2023 has seen a continued increase in the numbers of people using the Park and the Park Groups are determined, to increase the range of activities that take place in the Park.
Alexander Park continues to be a fantastic place to spend some quality time.
