King George Recreation Ground
The development of King George Recreation Ground, which was formerly countryside, has taken place in two phases - in 1911 and 1926. Much of the natural history has been retained with field boundaries, ridge and furrow, ancient hedgerows and wildflower meadows.
The addition of a cafe, play area, multi sports area, tennis courts (refurbished at the start of 2023), outdoor table tennis tables, fitness equipment and a splash-park, have increased the attractions in the Recreation Ground.
Proof of King George Recreation Ground’s success is to see it busy at all times of the day - dog walkers strolling through in the early morning, children playing in the splash park, families enjoying the fantastic food in the King George Café, bowlers decked out in their white and grey livery playing at the Bowls Club, people of all ages improving their health using the fitness equipment and playing table tennis, and teenagers playing football in the multi sports area. Continuing improvements to the park provide opportunities for everyone to benefit from this valuable community resource in the heart of Bushey.
The range of events held in the park during 2023 included Movies in the park, an Easter Egg hunt, the Kings Coronation Party and reopening of the Tennis Courts, a teddy bears picnic, children’s fun and craft days, dog shows, weekly health walks, musical and comedy events, a regular fun fair, celebration of the Jewish New Year, a Halloween Trail, sports coaching, a charity sponsored walk, Park Run and exercise classes.
