John Innes Park
Opened as a public park in 1909, John Innes Park is an attractive and welcoming 3. hectare community open space where formal gardens, historic buildings and sports facilities combine to create opportunities for socialising and recreation within a secluded and peaceful urban sanctuary.
The restored Arts and Crafts style gardens invite visitors into an enchanting ornamental landscaped open space that connects visitors with the rich horticultural and architectural hertitage of the local area. Exotic and native tree and shrubs, a rockery, rose arbor, an ornamental pond and seasonal bedding displays complement the original Manor House features designed by the architects Quartermain and Brocklesby. Public facilities including a bowling green, a croquet lawn, tennis courts and a bandstand. The local community, the Friends of John Innes Park, the John Innes Society, the adjacent Rutlish School, and sports clubs have worked closely with parks staff over a number of years to restore the park to its former glory.
