Hatanpää Mansion Park and Arboretum

Hatanpään mansion park and arboretum.

This park locates approximately 3 kilometers from the center of Tampere and the area is 10 hectares. It is surrounded by the lake Pyhäjärvi. The park has historic value because it was established in 1758 before the city of Tampere by Hans Henrik Boije. Hatanpään kartanopuisto is very popular among the citizens and travelers. The park is also educational because every plant has a name sign.
The Arboretum was established in 1970s. This part of the park is 4 hectares and it presents different kind of plant species. In addition to tree and shrub species there are diverse perennial plantings and water and wetland plants. There is a pond in the park which offers a suitable growth environment for the water and wetland plants. Rock plantings and rhododendrons are well-liked attractions in the arboretum. Almost all of the plants found in the arboretum flourish in the region of Tampere but there are few rarities.

The Rose garden was established in the early 1970s. It was built on a hillside south of the mansion where used to be an orchard. There are about 200 different kind of roses in the garden. A wide diversity of cover -, group -, climbing -, shrub - and park roses. The best time to visit the Rose garden is from middle of July to end of September.
