Clarence Park
Clarence Park is a formal park in the heart of St Albans. Opened in 1894, the park was gifted to the citizens of St Albans. The park retains many original Victorian features and was successful in Heritage Lottery Funding in 1997 as part of the Urban Parks Programme, which has enabled significant improvement and restoration work to be undertaken. The new plan reflects the constructive comments from Green Flag judges over the last five years, and the public feedback from the Green Herts consultation and the Park Forum.
The Management Plan takes a fresh look at the Park’s vision and objectives, recognizing that the park has improved overall through the Green Flag process, a fact which has been noticed and reflected in the public feedback. Further improvement is still possible, but maintaining these higher standards is a challenge in itself.
Encouraging more public involvement and volunteer work in the park, is still a key objective, and the Council is pursuing some new initiatives through its web site.
The Council’s vision is being delivered through projects such as Green Flag . The Council is committed to achieving high standards across all its parks and open spaces, and Green Flag sets a standard to measure itself against.
