How many of us have memories from certain point in our lives that connect us to gardens, parks and green spaces? How important is a sense of belonging - my space, our space. This Resource Pack by Gardens of Sanctuary demonstrates how to successful welcome new people to get involved in your parks and green spaces. Whilst designed originally to open up community gardens to asylum seekers, the principles are the same for getting anyone engaged in your projects and generating a more cohesive community.
Gardens of Sanctuary
Gardens of Sanctuary is a partnership between Social Farms & Gardens, City of Sanctuary and the Permaculture Association. We have a shared vision of a network of green spaces with a culture of welcome, in which asylum seekers and refugees feel safe and appreciated as valued contributors and co-creators of community gardens and environmental projects across the UK. In 2017 and 2018 we conducted a UK wide study of community growing groups to find out how they worked with refugees and asylum seekers.
