Holmebrook Valley Park

Holmebrook Valley Park was initially opencast for coal before being reclaimed and landscaped from 1992 onwards.

The park was officially opened by Frank Dobson MP on Sunday 23rd April 1995.

Since then the park has gone from strength to strength resulting in the overall maturity of the site and the acceptance within the local and wider community as a place to enjoy and spend leisure time.

Holmebrook Valley Park covers 141 acres and is situated on the western fringe of the borough of Chesterfield. The western boundaries of the park follow the dividing line between the borough of Chesterfield and the rural district of North East Derbyshire.

The park consists of a mosaic of woodland, species-rich wildflower meadows, sports pitches, open water and visitor facilities, such as play areas and picnic sites.

Visitors come to the park to walk, enjoy nature and for general relaxation.

Others come to use the parks sports facilities and the extensive network of paths for orienteering, cycling, horse riding and jogging. The lake is also a popular venue for coarse angling and event attendance.


The recent developments allows the park to fulfil the needs of the local community whilst attracting visitors from further afield with high quality facilities, a program of cultural events and a diverse natural environment.
