Abbey Park, Pershore

Abbey Park Pershore, like so many parks of that name, was originally the grounds to the Abbey and then boasted the usual allotment gardens and orchards and farm area. Today the park successfully combines its historical tranquillity, quiet seating areas giving close views of the Abbey along with modern day facilities such as a skate park, a children's water play area and a football pitch. The long avenue of Turkey Oaks and the views of The Abbey make for an uplifting walk across the park to the shops, stopping perhaps to enjoy the antics of the resident population of squirrels.Visitors can delve into the history of the area via four illustrated information panels. The bowling green near The Abbey has an active club, which welcomes new members and also gets involved with teaching local school children the art of the game. The Bandstand hosts music in the park on summer Sunday afternoons and the Community Orchard buzzes with insects attracted by the flowery fringe around its boundaries.Overall the park is a definite must to visit when in the attractive town of Pershore. Activities continue to be held in the orchard supported by Trees Call to Action and the Council Biodiversity Officer plus Worcestershire County Council for one of them.
