26 November 2025

We are thrilled to announce that Weymouth Town Council has been crowned the winner of the prestigious Green Flag ‘Best of the Best’ Award in the category of Best Love Parks Event 2025.

We are thrilled to announce that Weymouth Town Council has been crowned the winner of the prestigious Green Flag ‘Best of the Best’ Award in the category of Best Love Parks Event 2025.

The award recognises the outstanding success of the ‘Love Nothe Gardens 2025’ event. While other councils have hosted Love Parks events in the past, this was a first for Weymouth Town Council, and the judges were blown away by how the event brought the community together to celebrate the town’s stunning horticulture.

A teddy bear takeover

Held at the beautiful Nothe Gardens, adjacent to the historic Nothe Fort, the inaugural event drew hundreds of visitors for a day of sunshine and community spirit.

Centred around a Teddy Bears Picnic theme, families were encouraged to bring their cherished cuddly toys along for the ride. The day was packed with free activities designed to help families enjoy the outdoors during the school holidays, including:

  • The teddy bear zipwire: Undoubtedly the star attraction of the day!

  • Storytelling and rhyme time: Hosted by the local library.

  • Family yoga sessions: Promoting wellness in the fresh air.

  • Live music, arts and crafts: Entertainment for all ages.

  • Community stalls: Featuring Nothe Fort, Tumbledown Community Farm, and local Police Officers (complete with blues and twos!).

More than just a beach

While Weymouth is world-famous for its sandy beaches, the event provided the perfect platform to showcase the plethora of amazing green spaces the town possesses.

Despite a slightly grey start to the morning, the sun eventually broke through, illuminating the scavenger hunts and orienteering trails. The event highlighted the value of free, accessible green spaces where families can enjoy fresh air and cost-free entertainment—something deeply appreciated by the local community.

Connecting the public with the greenspaces team

One of the most unique and praised aspects of the event was the direct involvement of the Greenspaces Team.

Members of the team were on hand to chat with the public about the vital work they do to maintain the town. Kids had the chance to take photos with the mowers and participate in seed-planting sessions guided by the gardening experts.

This interaction highlighted the incredible work done by a relatively small team that covers a massive variety of jobs across the town. Feedback on the day praised this personal touch, with residents noting how wonderful it was to meet the faces behind the flowers.

A legacy in the making

Thanks to the hard work of the Comms team in building enthusiasm, and the dedication of the staff on the ground, the event received rave reviews online, with many families staying from start to finish.

Following this national recognition from the Green Flag Awards, it is hoped that ‘Love Nothe Gardens’ will become the first of a long line of Love Parks events in Weymouth.

Congratulations to Weymouth Town Council and the entire Greenspaces team for this well-deserved victory!
