2,391 parks across the UK are among local green spaces to achieve prestigious international Green Flag Award quality standard.
Communities across the UK are being encouraged to discover some of the country’s best parks and green spaces on their own doorstep as 2,391 local sites have received our coveted Green Flag Award as we celebrate our 30th anniversary.
The award recognises parks and green spaces that are safe, welcoming and well-managed, setting the benchmark standard for recreational outdoor spaces around the world. Parks are independently assessed against rigorous criteria, including accessibility, maintenance, environmental management, safety, biodiversity and community involvement.
Paul Todd MBE, Green Flag Award Manager at Keep Britain Tidy, said: “We are delighted to see 2,391 parks and green spaces cross the UK achieve Green Flag Award status this year. Every winner should be incredibly proud of this achievement. It is a testament to the commitment, passion, dedication and hard work that goes into creating and maintaining these special places for the benefit of residents and visitors alike.”
“Parks and green spaces play such a vital role in our communities, bringing people together, reducing loneliness, creating safe, free spaces for children to play and allowing everyone equal access to nature, all of which has a proven impact on our wellbeing and quality of life.
“What began with just seven winning parks 30 years ago has grown into an internationally recognised scheme with more than 2,500 sites around the world. Green Flag Award-winning parks demonstrate what can be achieved through sustained investment, expertise and long-term stewardship. Behind every award are dedicated teams, volunteers and community groups working year-round to raise standards and create places that are safe, welcoming and accessible for everyone.”
