The Canadian Inclusive Green Spaces Symposium: Enhancing Access to Municipal Parks in Canada takes place in Saskatoon on 11th - 13th June and is hosted by the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association and the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association and organized in partnership with Park People and the Canadian Parks Council with valued support from Parks Canada.

The event aims to foster a national community of practice that empowers the parks sector to enhance access for all communities, especially those traditionally underserved by green spaces. The event will serve as a catalyst for long-term impact by building a connected national community of practice, supporting the development of a path forward for equitable park access, and setting a forward-looking agenda for the parks sector in Canada.

As part of the ongoing international development of the programme, the Green Flag Award has joined the symposium as both a key sponsor and session coordinator - delivering a presentation on our recently co-produced guidance: Safer Parks - Improving Access for Women and Girls.
In addition to this, there is excitement growing in the sector that the event could also be the staging ground to announce the very first Green Flag Award winners in Canada.

Carl McClean - International development Manager at the Green Flag Award said:
"We're really excited to be trialling the Green Flag Award in Canada. The programme feels like a really good fit for the sector here, and we have already seen so many examples of great parks and best practice in management plans."
The Green Flag Award continues to grow around the world. The 2024-25 season saw an amazing 2,531 winners from 19 countries. This included first time awards in Seattle (USA), Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia), Malaga (Spain), Toowoomba (Australia), Istanbul (Turkey), Lempäälä (Finland) and London (UK).
