2024 marks a record breaking year for the Emirates after a 30% increase in winners and three new municipalities

Applications were received from 9 organisations - from former winners Al Dhafra in the West to first time awarded Kalba and Khorfakkan in the East. The achievement solidifies the United Arab Emirates status in the top 3 countries in the world for Green Flag Award winners after the UK and Ireland.

Eng. Mohamed Alsaeedi, Director of the Technical Services Operations Department at Abu Dhabi Municipality, stated:

The international standard for parks and green spaces
Founded in 1996 in the United Kingdom, the aim of the Green Flag Award is to ensure that everyone has access to a quality green space to enable healthy lifestyles and stronger communities. Since then it has expanded into 18 countries around the globe and celebrates over 2,500 winners every year.

Keep Britain Tidy, who run the programme internationally have been supporting growth in the UAE by training a number of Emirati judges who are supported and mentored by UK parks professionals.
