Three new municipalities met the internationally recognised standard winning for one park each this year, whilst four existing winners retained their titles with pride.
First time winners were celebrated this year in Izmir, Antalya and Gaziantep.
Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality won for Galle Park, a 27 hectare site constructed along the Alleben Stream - featuring 190,000 m² of greenspace with diverse thematic gardens including: Japanese, Zen, Chinese, Dutch, Baroque, and Ottoman styles.
Antalya Metropolitan Municipality won for Atatürk Kültür Parkı, positioned overlooking the world famous Konyaalti Beach and which hosts events such as the International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, Antalya Book Fair, International Antalya Piano Festival, and Hobbyfest.
Antalya Metropolitan Municipality said:
“We are so proud that Antalya Metropolitan Municipality has been internationally recognized for Atatürk Culture Park, which has been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award. This award, granted following inspections by an expert judging team, is a significant indication that our city has reached globally recognised standards.”
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality won for Kültürpark. The city's oldest park, Kültürpark is of great significance due to its rich ecological value, housing natural heritage assets of high environmental importance. It boasts an inventory of 117 plant species, including endemic and exotic plants, belonging to 86 genre from 44 families.

Renewing their certifications – Denizli Metropolitan Municipality celebrated three parks in the city, the most for any Turkish applicant. Incilipinar Park, Çamlık Park, Adalet Park have been successful for consecutive years and Denizli was the first city to receive a Green Flag Award in Turkey in 2018.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municpality was recognised for the impressive Büyükdere Atatürk Nursery, an iconic showcase of the horticultural history of the city - complete with training facilities for the sector. The city hosts the Istanbul Landscape Fair for the fourth year which attracted speakers and attendees from around the world.

The success will be showcased at the World Urban Parks symposium taking place as part of the Istanbul Landscape Fair between 8th – 10th October.

As the Green Flag Award programme continues to grow around the world, so too does our judging reach. In the past 12 months new judges have been trained in Finland, Ireland, Belgium, Portugal and the USA. A proposal is being developed to train the first cohort of judges in Turkey in the next few years.
