Since launching the International Green Flag Award scheme in Abu Dhabi in 2015, the United Arab Emirates is delighted to be raising the flag over seven parks this week.
With two new cities meeting the award standards for the first time, in Al Ain and Masdar City, the number of flags across the emirate has more than doubled since last year.
This year’s award winning green spaces are
• Al Rahba Park (in Abu Dhabi)
• Al Bahya Park (in Abu Dhabi)
• Delma Park (in Abu Dhabi)
• Corniche Beach Park (in Abu Dhabi)
• Mother of the Nation Park (in Abu Dhabi)
• Al Ain Oasis (in Al Ain)
• Masdar Park (in Masdar City)
Whilst a team from Keep Britain Tidy travelled to judge the sites, they are also delivering training to 20 park staff – demonstrating how to apply Green Flag Award criteria to raise standards across their sites.
Green Flag Award International Development Manager Carl McClean said ‘It is fantastic to see the commitment of the United Arab Emirates to providing quality green spaces for people to enjoy.
“We continue to be impressed with the attention to environmental sustainability and the use of technology in this country in a cohesive approach with parks. Congratulations to all those successful on their well-earned award.’
With the park staff’s commitment to improving and sustainably managing green spaces, and their increasing knowledge thanks to the team, next year may see even more flags raised over the UAE.
As the Green Flag Award scheme continues to go global, expect to see raising standards worldwide and more flags flying over more countries than ever before.
