Young volunteers making a difference
This year, we couldn't pick just one Young Volunteer of the Year! The Green Flag Award 2024 Young Volunteer of the Year, sponsored by Mr Chris Worman MBE, goes to the entire young volunteer team at Maes Y Pant (Hollowfield Action Group). They've dedicated countless hours to their local community woodland, and we're thrilled to recognise their hard work and commitment.
What started as a Duke of Edinburgh's Award project has blossomed into a long-term commitment. These young volunteers, despite facing challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic and inclement weather, have persevered with unwavering enthusiasm. Their contributions have been invaluable, ranging from woodworking and forestry to path maintenance and pond care.
Their dedication has inspired volunteers of all ages, creating a strong sense of community. The group's positive attitude and willingness to learn have made them an integral part of the team. As one letter of thanks put it, "They are a credit to themselves and to all those who have been privileged to help them develop into the amazing young adults that they are."
These young volunteers have overcome obstacles and demonstrated exceptional teamwork. They are a shining example of the positive impact that young people can have on their communities. Their passion for nature and their commitment to volunteering are truly inspiring.
