Victoria Park (Smethwick)

Victoria Park with Smethwick Heritage Centre and the community pavilion combines to provide a pleasant and interesting experience for visitors and users. Victoria Park comprises of predominantly large expanses of recreational and amenity grassland with mature tree planting in random woodland patterns, single specimens and avenues along each side the network of paths. Despite the extensive changes that have occurred both in and around the park, the mature tree planting continues to reflect the structure of the park’s original design features. It has a traditional parkland character that accommodates a diverse range of formal and informal activities. The park has provision for active recreational activities including five sports pitches, a cricket table, flood lit multi use games area, gym equipment and tennis court. Passive recreational activities include the children’s play area, the lake and a network of tree-lined pathways. The former park lodge converted into a Heritage centre along with a community pavilion provides additional attractions and innovative use of park buildings. In 2008 Victoria Park Committee was established comprising of local community and heritage centre representatives, elected members. The committee provides the focus for improvements and activity in the park.
