Pegwell Bay Country Park
Pegwell Bay Country Park is situated on the sea side of the A256 Sandwich Road and perfect for a family day out. The site is 29 hectares in size and offers a range of opportunties for all visitors and user groups. Park your car on site for £1.30 per day Mon- Fri, £2.00 Sat, Sun and bank Holidays. Season tickets are available from the country parks web site.The park offers a toilet block with baby change room, play area and purpose built bird hide. You can join Parkrun every Saturday morning at 9am.
Follow the coastal path to gain stunning views of Pegwell Bay. During the winter months at lowtide the bay is full of overwintering wading birds, stop in the public bird hide to view over the mosaic of habitats comprising of mudflats, intertidal saltmarsh, shingle beach and cliffs. Meander through the centre of the site to see the grazing Highland cattle, these animals are grazing through a partnership agreement with the Kent Wildlife Trust to manage the grassland habitats. Access is Open over the Country Park, with controlled access applying to the wider National Nature Reserve due to the sensitive wildlife of the NNR site.
Access can be easily gained by bicycle. Route 15 of the Sustrans national network passes through the site.
The Country Park is part of the wider Sandwich and Pegwell Bay National Nature Reserve (SPA, SAC, SSSI) where Kent County Council works in partnership with Kent Wildlife trust, Thanet District Council, Dover District Council, RSPB, National Trust to manage the wider national Nature reserve.
