Wollaton Dovecote Museum Garden

Although small, the Dovecote garden is well maintained and welcoming. Open from the roadside, the garden leads to the Wollaton Village Dovecote which was built in 1565 for Sir Francis Willoughby. It contains nesting holes for pigeons to breed and lay eggs which would provide food for the estate. The Grade II listed building is owned by Nottingham City Council and leased to Wollaton Historical and Conservation Society who open the building to the public every second Sunday of the month from May to September and at variable other times. The Dovecote houses a local history museum and various exhibitions on topics of local interest.

The garden consisting of a grassed area with shrub borders is maintained by the Wollaton Historical and Conservation Society and is open all year round. The garden is well maintained but with an emphasis on encouraging wildlife. We have 5 bird boxes and 2 bug hotels which were made with the help of children at a Wollaton Festival event. This small garden is a space for relaxation and wildlife in Wollaton.
