Incredible Edible Porthmadog
This garden demonstrates local food security in an inspiring way. It has developed a bee and butterfly garden using recycled materials and has planted 105 trees. The garden is increasing biodiversity in the locality, promoting food growing and creating flood resilience. The project has beautified the leisure centre without cost to the facility. We have evidence from the community which indicates the positivity that exists for the garden. Delighted local primary school children have now made their mark by planting an orchard at the site.
The group have built inspiring structures out of waste materials. The Hwb meeting/tea room uses tyres, ecobricks (plastic bottle filled with waste plastic) and cob and has a sedum roof. The walipini/passive solar gain greenhouse, with earth filled tyres and cob as thermal mass, was mostly completed during 2025, with the help of primary school children. Some finishing touches remain.
