Ayr Cemetery

Ayr Cmetery lies on the eastern edge of the town of Ayr. It was laid out in 1861-62, with the first interment taking place on 27th May 1862. The entrance and lodge are C Listed and were designed by the Ayr architect John Murdoch. The cemetery was extended to the east beyond the original boundary wall in 1906, and there have been further extensions since. Ayr and district saw considerable military activity during both world wars, and the cemetery contains over 200 war graves of servicemen and women. Ayr Cemetery is a peaceful and reflective site with some beautiful old headstones.
