Fallings Heath Cemetery

Fallings Heath Cemetery forms part of Sandwell Council’s Bereavement Services.

The cemetery, which opened in 1936, has a range of burial and memorial facilities that meet the diverse religious customs of Sandwell’s residents. It has continued to grow and now covers an area of 6.9 hectares. The peaceful, well-maintained grounds are designed to provide reassurance and support to the bereaved as they journey through the grieving process.

The cemetery is a community resource, providing a green space for people to take a quiet walk or a moment to think.

As an environmental resource, the cemetery is a largely unchanging, mature green space that supports and encourages biodiversity. In addition to the mature trees and grassland, the new wildlife gardens support many species of flora and fauna.

The ongoing growth and development of the cemetery has been achieved through working with local councillors, staff, partner organisations and cemetery users. As a result of the positive developments has achieved Silver award in Cemetery of the Year.

A Green Flag award for Fallings Heath Cemetery will provide all those involved with the ongoing development of this community facility with the recognition they deserve. It would also be an incentive for the other cemeteries in the borough to seek their own Green Flag recognition.
