Apley Woods Local Nature Reserve
Apley Woods Local Nature Reserve is approximately 22.4 hectares and is situated in the north-western corner of Telford. It was designated as a Local Nature Reserve in 2007.
The site consists of meadows, pools, trees, and winding footpaths. Apley Castle and its woods are a fine example of a 19th Century landscaped woodland. There are walking routes throughout the site. There is evidence that there has been woodland on the site as far back as 1300 although the present woods are largely created during the last 200 years as part of the ornamental gardens to the Georgian Manor House. The Georgian Manor House was built in 1792 and demolished in 1955. The site has historical buildings that include an Ice house and a dovecote.
Apley Woods Local Nature Reserve has a fine collection of trees which range from semi-natural woodland to ornamental specimens from around the world. The woodland's historical interest and rich diversity make it extremely valuable. Many of the species of wildlife to be found Apley Woods, especially some of the birds and bats are of ecological importance.
