Clifton Country Park

Clifton Country Park Local Nature Reserve occupies 48 hectares of scenic urban fringe countryside in Salford, with woods, meadows, ponds and a lake to explore and remnants of the cities industrial past to discover. Hidden away in the Irwell Valley the country park is just a few miles from Salford city centre and easily accessible from the A666. The country park is ideal for walking, adventure play, picnics, fishing, orienteering, horse riding, feeding the ducks, school trips or just for a breather from city life. Within the country park are the industrial remains of the Wet Earth Colliery. Established around 1740, the colliery was one of the first deep mines to be sunk in the Irwell Valley. Here, James Brindley one of the foremost engineers in British industrial history designed a unique hydraulic pumping system to deal with flooding in the mines. So whatever the weather, come along to Clifton Country Park and enjoy the countryside on your doorstep.
