Jokilaakson matkailupuutarha
The Jokilaakso gardens is located at the center of the city of Lapua. This 2-hectare park is bordered on one side by a river and rapids, which creates a magnificent feel and soundscape.
The park was built over the years 1998-2000 at grounds of Lapua school of domestic science which operated there for over a hundred years. As a reminder of this era there are old buildings in the park. The park is a popular travel and leisure destination for tourists, students and the residents.
There are thousands of plants in the park, and they have name tags.
The park has a great useful plant demonstration area, which is one of largest in Finland. Other demonstration areas in the park include roses, coniferous trees and grasses. There is also a large collection of different fruit trees. The park has many perennial plant plantings, and great summer flower plantings. Many of the plants are specialties and rarities.
The best time for a visit is between July and August. There are guided tours organized in the park. Guided tours are arranged by request and on weekly basis in July.
During the summer season the park has domestic animals, a cafe, a campfire area and a playground for children.
