Appletree Community Garden
Appletree Community Garden is an outdoor community garden in Agbrigg, Wakefield, West Yorkshire. The garden serves the local community with a vibrant green space and the facilities to grow fruits, flowers, and vegetables, serve communal meals, and to attend or host events.
Appletree’s vision is to foster and grow the health and wellbeing of both the garden and the community, and we strive to be a welcoming, accessible, and inspiring place where anyone – no matter their background, experiences, or disabilities – can find meaningful outdoor activities and feel part of a growing community. We provide opportunities to make friends, to learn and share skills, and contribute in ways that help strengthen social ties and develop a shared sense of community ownership.
We also seek to break down the barriers people often face to getting involved in a community and gardening. We tend the garden together for all to enjoy, there’s no pressure to attend, and you can take on as much or as little as you like. Whether it’s project-managing a group task, enjoying a cup of coffee with other volunteers, or simply taking a short walk around the garden – every contribution is welcomed and celebrated. It’s the people, and the combination of different activities, skills, interests, and ambitions, along with mutual respect, that makes Appletree Appletree.
