Riverside Park Compassionate Friends Garden
The Compassionates Friends Garden is located within Riverside Park in Perth. This beautiful Park overlooking the majestic River Tay is a stunning location for the small immaculately maintained garden. The garden’s creation dates back to 2012 when volunteers from the “in bloom” group Beautiful Perth supported by Perth & Kinross Council Community Justice Services cleared and undertook remedial work to uncover a small round turreted stone building dating back to 1800’s within the site. This unique feature forms the focal point for the garden. Further work uncovered a waterway and wells.
Some years later following a request to Beautiful Perth from the Compassionate Friends UK a Charity who support bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents, the open grassed space was completely transformed by the Beautiful Perth volunteers to create a picturesque, tranquil, contemplative garden.
The garden has been carefully planted with a mixture of sustainable, pollinator plants to create all year-round colour and interest. A snakeskin maple with an engraved memorial plaque planted by the Compassionate Friends UK and a sculpture of a robin, are poignant additions to the garden.
At the entrance is an impressive engraved bolder in pink fersite, generously donated by a local business. Moving up the garden, donated seating ensures the many visitors have comfort to stay and reflect in this small space, free of charge and with easy access.
Beautiful Perth volunteers regularly maintain the garden to a very high standard creating a wonderful garden for reflection.
