The Green Quarter
In one of the country’s most ambitious regeneration projects, the 88-acre former Southall Gasworks is being transformed into a nature-rich neighbourhood, characterised by 13 acres of beautiful parks, meadows and wetlands, designed in partnership with London Wildlife Trust. Amongst this new neighbourhood is Central Gardens, a 4.5-acre landscaped park delivered in Phase 1.
Designed as an accessible and vibrant green space reminiscent of city living, Central Gardens acts as the starting point for a gradual transition into wilder habitats. From here, the landscape is set to unfold through a rich mosaic of grassland and woodland, eventually opening into a 9-acre wetland that forms the ecological core of the site.
A carefully designed network of footpaths, cycle routes and boardwalks enables people to explore these landscapes at their own pace, offering new ways to experience nature and wildlife up close while maintaining sensitive habitat protection. Strategic planting plays a vital role in delivering a nature-rich masterplan, including flower-rich grasslands, over 2,500 trees, reed beds and diverse wildflower areas that support pollinators, birds and aquatic species, achieving 96.3% Biodiversity Net Gain.
