Worthington Park

Worthington Park was opened in 1900, paid for by the late Mrs Worthington as a gift to the people of Sale. It is a grand Victorian park that retains its original charm and beauty and benefits from a pleasant contrast between historic and modern facilities. It contains refurbished play areas, a sunken garden, a skate ramp, bowling greens a wildflower garden and more... It is also home to heritage features such as a bandstand, ornamental gates, and a memorial bust of famous local scientist, Professor JP Joule. An extremely popular park throughout the year, the seasons are well marked by the changes seen in the large number of beautiful trees, many over 100 years old. Worthington Park is always full of children playing and people walking dogs, or just relaxing. People flock to the park for well organised and exciting events such as the Annual Sale Festival. Brass band concerts in the park by the Sale Brass Band have become a regular event. Along with maintaining a varied annual events programme the active Friends group is keen to drive further improvements in the park. Recent developments have included the the replanting of two of the Sunken Garden beds . The Friends group and Trafford Council are working closely with their many partners on many other projects to further improve and bring Worthington Park to life.
