Mexico celebrates Green Flag Awards at international parks congress

As part of the 3rd International Congress of Urban Parks, La Asociación Nacional de Parques y Recreación de México (ANPR Mexico), who manage the Award in the country have announced 2x winners of the Green Flag Award for 2020-21.

Parque La Mexicana in Santa Fe -Mexico City and Parque Fundidora in Monterrey were both successful in retaining the internationally recognised standard for the second year running.

Itziar de Luisa, Executive President of Asociación de Colonos - the managing organisation of Parque la Mexicana said:

"It's a real pleasure for Parque la Mexicana to receive it's 2nd Green Flag Award accreditation! This certification is a great motivation for our team to continue working and improving the operations and maintenance of this fantastic park for the local community"

Eduardo Flores (also known as Chapin), Director of Development and Architectural Control at Parque Fundidora said:

"We receive the endorsement of the Green Flag Award, not with just satisfaction, but with real pride and determination that will lead us to continue to provide quality park for the local residents,  during and after the challenges of this global pandemic"


The Green Flag Award is set to grow in Mexico in 2021, with applications being opened up to any city across the country. Proposals are also in place to recruit up to 10x new judges under a new blended training model - meaning parks professionals in Mexico can begin to share best practice through the tried and tested Green Flag Award peer-to-peer sector based judge and applicant model. Major cities such as Guadalajara and León have already registered an interest in adopting the standard as a parks management system.

Endorsed by World Urban Parks - Congreso Parques was held in the city of León is a city in the central Mexican state of Guanajuato between 30th September and 2nd October. The event was delivered by ANPR Mexico through an innovative hybrid conference platform in response to attendance limitations due to coronavirus. Parks professionals from around the world attended both in-person, and remotely in a first of it's kind for the International Parks Congress.


The Green Flag Award is the internationally recognised standard for quality parks and green spaces in over 15 countries around the world.
